Pop was originally launched on 29 May 2003 by Chart Show Channels (CSC) Media Group as Toons&Tunes.[2] Toons&Tunes was then later rebranded as its current name, Pop (formerly stylized as pop and POP!) in the following month. In September 2003, a timeshift sister network - Pop Plus, was launched.[3] Originally, the network focused on music videos with animated programming also part of the schedule, but with the numerous music video network options on British television at the time, this focus was quickly abandoned in 2004, when the animated content became much more prominent. Music videos continued to be carried on and off until 2010, before eventually being abandoned entirely.[citation needed] Initially, the channel broadcast animated content sourced from Granada Media's programming library under a six-month non-exclusive deal, before transitioning to content sourced mainly from DIC Entertainment and Nelvana.
In the channel's early years, links were presented by Rorry, formerly known as Tricky, an animated lime green dragon who used to host a Saturday morning show in the autumn of 1997, but was repurposed for the Pop channel. Tricky spoke with a northern English dialect, while Rorry spoke in a different voice with a Scottish accent, both versions were animated live through computer cues. He was accompanied by Purrdy, a dragon/cat hybrid who also appeared in the original Tricky programme on ITV, it was sometimes followed by a programme known as "The Cheeky Monkey Show" which features the live links of the animated coloured monkeys known as "The Cheeky Monkeys".
In July 2004, Pop Plus was rebranded as Tiny Pop with the channel's pre-school shows being moved over, alongside the Cheeky Monkeys.
On 10 August 2007, a one-hour timeshift service - Pop +1 was launched on Sky, alongside Tiny Pop +1. On 11 October, the channel was launched on Virgin Media, alongside Tiny Pop.[4]
On 19 May 2008, Pop +1 ceased broadcast and was replaced with a new sister network - Kix!.
On 1 February 2011, Pop was removed from Virgin Media to make way for the cable launch of True Entertainment.[5]
On 20 March 2014, Pop was launched on Freeview.[6] Prior to April 2016, Pop was only available in areas where there is a local TV channel. On 14 July, Pop +1 was relaunched on Sky, replacing Kix +1.
On 1 April 2016, Pop moved to a wider coverage nationwide freeview mix, becoming available to over 90% of the country.[7] The capacity vacated by Pop on the local multiplex was used to transmit Kix from 7 April 2016. Pop +1 moved to LCN channel 128, to release 127 for use by Kix, but was otherwise unaffected, continuing to broadcast locally to Manchester only until its eventual withdrawal from Freeview.
On 1 September 2020, Pop rebranded its on-air identity, with the premiere of Bakugan: Armored Alliance.[8] And on the same day, starting with Pokémon Journeys: The Series, the network became the new British home of the Pokémon anime, moving from its previous broadcasters, ITV1 and CITV, of over 20 years.[9]
On 9 November 2022, Narrative Entertainment announced the launch of a new FAST channel, Pop Kids, to stream on Samsung TV Plus, the new FAST network airs shows from Pop and Tiny Pop.[10]
Sometime in 2022, Pop began to branch into original content for the first time, as they approached Joe Tasker for a new show called Swipe It! With Joe Tasker.
On 19 July 2023, Pop reverted to broadcasting on the local-TV multiplex, switching places with sibling film channel Great! Romance.[11] In September 2023, it was announced that Pop Kids would split into two FAST channels, with Tiny Pop getting its own channel, and with Pop replacing the current FAST channel.[12]
On 7 February 2024, Pop and other Narrative Entertainment channels were removed from Freesat to make way for the closure of the linear variant of Tiny Pop,[13] however it was relaunched in 21 August in the same year, but not on Freesat.
In December 2024, Pop's website was closed down and was redirected to the Pop Player website.
On 1 December 2024, Pop and Tiny Pop got turned into a hybrid streaming channel on Freeview but it continues to be a linear channel on Sky and Virgin Media. [14]

About some shows as they are obscure
Da Boom Crew: Four foster kids create a video game about heroes going up against space alien terrorists. Then a portal appears and pulls them into a dimension which is just like the world in their game. They embark on a quest to find their missing video game cartridges and stop the sadistic extraterrestrial emperor Zorch from taking control of this intergalactic dimension.[2]
Characters
Justin – The leader and general of the crew who wears shoulder pads, and elbow pads. His weapons are two laser pistols and an arm slingshot.

She is a ginger-haired girl who wears a red track jacket with matching jogging pants, grey hiking boots, a blue wristband on her left wrist, and has ginger hair up positioned in two pigtails. He resembles a flat screen computer with a hollow, metal, cylindrical body, has two robotic arms and moves around on a small set of wheels. He does not talk, but shows above-average human intelligence and uses a series of beeps to communicate. A digital face portraying his mood is shown on the screen.
"Great Commander" Blurp – Former War Commander of Planet Yodiggity in the war against Zorch. He says he is a brave commander, but his actions say otherwise.
Zorch – He wishes to conquer the galaxy by gathering the Boom Cards.
Headlock – Cohort of Zorch. He wears a dome on his head because it is abnormally small. His assistant's name is Gerone. This character was voiced by Morris Day
Hetra – Headlock's evil older sister. She and Commander Blurp were trained by the same mentor.
Kung Fu Sock: Eight-year-old Tee Zeng finds an unusual sock that is actually a Kung Fu master named Kung Fu Wa from another world. Wearing the sock transforms Tee Zeng into super heroine Kung Fu Girl. She and Kung Fu Wa must complete missions and protect their home, Starry Island.[2][3]

Squish: The series follows the adventures of Squish, a 12-year-old amoeba in the town of Small Pond (a town inhabited entirely by unicellular organisms) along with his friends, Pod and Peggy, as they try to navigate school and their everyday lives while learning more about unicellular organisms.

User1: Hey everyone, did anyone notice that Pop Max seems to be kicking off some kind of Summer event starting July 3? I caught a hint of it on their schedule and some promos, but no official announcement yet.

Write a forum conversation asking why doesn't any of the Pop channels show this anymore
User1: Hey everyone, I used to love watching KikoRiki on the Pop channels, especially the episodes with Krash and the gang. But lately, I’ve noticed none of the Pop channels—Pop, Pop Max, or Tiny Pop—seem to show it anymore. Does anyone know why KikoRiki disappeared from their lineup? It was such a fun and unique show!
User2: Yeah, I’ve wondered the same thing! KikoRiki had a nice mix of humor and charm, plus those quirky characters like Krash, Chiko, and Olga. I miss seeing it on Pop Max especially. Maybe it lost its broadcast rights or something?
User3: It could be a licensing issue or the channel changing focus. Pop has been adding a lot of newer shows and their own originals lately, plus more Pokémon and Barbie stuff. Sadly, older or less popular shows sometimes get dropped.
User4: I heard that KikoRiki’s rights might have gone to another channel or streaming service? Sometimes international shows move around a lot. Maybe it’s available somewhere else now and that’s why Pop doesn’t air it anymore?
User1: That would be a shame if true. It was a good show to have on a kids channel, especially since it’s got those interesting characters with different personalities, like Dokko the scientist moose or Barry the farmer bear. Anyone know if it’s streaming somewhere or set to come back?
User2: Last I checked, I couldn’t find it on Pop Player or related apps. Hopefully they bring it back or at least make it available to watch online. Would love to revisit those classic episodes!
User3: Same here. If anyone finds out more about where KikoRiki went or why Pop dropped it, please share! It’s a bit disappointing for longtime fans.
User4: Agreed! Fingers crossed we see Krash and the gang again soon, either on Pop or somewhere accessible.

Write a conversation listing the 9 most promoted current shows
User1: Hey, has anyone noticed which shows Pop is really pushing these days? Like, the ones they promote the most on air and online?
User2: Yeah, I’ve noticed a few for sure. Pokémon is definitely one of the biggest ones. It’s everywhere on their schedule and social media.
User3: For me, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is also huge. I see trailers and clips like nonstop, plus new episodes keep dropping.
User4: Don’t forget Barbie! They’ve got those Barbie movies and the newer series like Barbie: A Touch of Magic and It Takes Two getting lots of airtime too.
User1: True. Swipe It! With Joe Tasker is also getting a big push. Since it’s their own original, they’re clearly promoting it heavily.
User2: Bakugan (all the new series) seems to be another big one. I catch those promos often, especially around the new seasons like Geogan Rising and Evolutions.
User3: Monster High is also pretty prominent, along with Power Rangers Dino Fury. Pop Max especially runs a ton of Power Rangers content.
User4: And I’ve seen a lot of ads for Grizzy & the Lemmings. That show pops up on multiple channels including Pop, CBBC, and Boomerang.
User1: So summing up, I’d say the 9 most promoted current shows on Pop are:
Pokémon
Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir
Barbie (including movies and series)
Swipe It! With Joe Tasker
Bakugan (Battle Planet, Geogan Rising, Evolutions, Legends)
Monster High
Power Rangers Dino Fury
Grizzy & the Lemmings
Shadow candidate: Lego City Adventures (I see a fair share of promos for this one too)
User2: That sounds about right! Those shows dominate their promos and scheduling for sure. It’ll be interesting to see if any new shows break into that top tier soon.
User3: Agreed, but for now it looks like Pop’s really focusing on those. Thanks for the summary!
Write a conversation asking what show feels like it's on it's lasty legs
User1: Hey, just wondering—does anyone else feel like a certain show on Pop is kind of on its last legs? Like it’s been around forever but now it’s barely getting any airtime or promotion.
User2: Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. Which show are you thinking of? For me, it feels like Lego City Adventures has really dropped off lately. Used to see it all the time, but now it barely shows up.
User3: Hmm, I was thinking more along the lines of Total DramaRama. It used to be pretty popular, but recently it seems like they’re not pushing it as much, and new episodes are scarce.
User4: Good points. I also get that vibe from Animal Exploration with Jarod Miller. It’s a nice show but hasn’t had much presence on Pop in ages.
User1: Yeah, sometimes it feels like these longer-running shows lose their spot when new content comes in. Do you think Pop is planning to drop any of these soon?
User2: Possibly. They’ve been adding more original and fresh content like Swipe It! With Joe Tasker, so maybe some older shows get phased out.
User3: I hope they give final seasons or a proper sendoff if the show’s ending. No one wants to see a favorite just quietly disappear.
User4: Totally agree. It’d be nice if Pop updated us or officially canceled shows rather than just letting them fade away.
User1: For now, I’ll just keep an eye on the schedule and hope our favorites stick around a bit longer!
Write a conversation asking if Squish is just..., there
User1: Hey, has anyone else been wondering about Squish on Pop? It kind of feels like the show is just... there lately. Like, it’s on the schedule but not really pushed or talked about much.
User2: Yeah, I noticed that too. It’s weird because it’s a pretty unique and fun show, but I barely see any promos or new episodes being highlighted.
User3: Same here. It feels like Squish is just filling space rather than being a key part of the lineup. I wonder if it’s losing popularity or if Pop just isn’t focusing on it anymore.
User4: Could be both. Sometimes shows just plateau, and if they’re not big ratings earners, channels might not invest in promoting them.
User1: Exactly. I enjoy watching it, but it does feel like it’s kind of “there” without much energy behind it.
User2: Hopefully it’s not being quietly phased out. Would be a shame to lose it without any notice.
User3: Agreed. I hope Pop surprises us with more Squish content or gives it a bigger spotlight again. Fingers crossed!
Write a reply with 4 Pop/Pop Max shows that feel like they're just there
Sure! Here’s a reply you can use:
Yeah, I get what you mean about shows just feeling like they’re “there” without much promotion or buzz. For me, a few Pop/Pop Max shows that feel like that right now are:
Annedroids – It’s a neat show but doesn’t seem to get much attention or new episodes on Pop Max anymore.
Shasha & Milo – Always see it in the lineup, but it rarely gets promos or anything special.
Power Players – It’s part of the schedule but feels pretty low-key compared to the big hitters like Pokémon or Miraculous.
Droners – Interesting concept but kind of just sits quietly on the channel without much fanfare.
They’re all good shows in their own right, but honestly, it feels like the channel isn’t really investing in pushing them lately. Hopefully that changes!
Write a conversation saying maybe Squish just needs to be put out of it's misery, I don't know how Crew is doing (other than the fact it got booted off Kids WB in 2004 after only airing 4 episodes due to extremely low ratings, but somehow is back on Pop/Pop Max). I know the perfect show to return to replae both
