what is Auto Signature Help in zed editor?
ASSISTANT
In the Zed editor, **Auto Signature Help** is a feature that automatically displays function or method signatures (i.e., the list of parameters and their types) while you are typing code. When you start typing a function call or a method invocation, the editor pops up a tooltip or an inline hint showing you the expected arguments, their order, and sometimes additional documentation. This helps you write code more efficiently by providing immediate guidance on how to use functions without needing to look up the documentation separately.

For example, if you're writing a function call like `myFunction(`, the Auto Signature Help will show something like:

```
myFunction(param1: string, param2: number, param3?: boolean)
```

This feature enhances coding speed and reduces errors by reminding you of the correct parameters as you type. It is commonly found in modern code editors and IDEs and is particularly useful in languages with complex function signatures.

Slavic themed culture would be so cool!

Winged Hussars, bardiche axemen, cossacks of all sorts, sabre dancers, boyars, these will make me so happy! :)
In the far future, ofc. :)

Not really as interested in this idea as I'd be for many, many others.

But, let's start with...what currently unoccupied affinity combination would a "Slavic" culture have?
And what would set it apart from Feudal or Barbaric? It needs to have more than just specific unit names to be unique.

Plus...if you look at the current cultures. You can't just call it "Slavic". Having a real life geographic name like that would really be immersion breaking. The Feudal culture isn't named "English" "French" or "German" either. So what name would you give it?

Yea, so what?

Just seems that then by now you could have come up with some answers to the questions posed in this thread:

1) What affinity combo would it have? (That isn't used yet)?
2) Beyond the cosmetic flavour, what archetype would it have that would make it sufficiently different from Feudal and Barbaric?
3) What would be its name?
4) Would it not be better as just a cosmetic option for Feudal? I mean from what I know about Medieval Slavic culture it would be sufficiently similar to Feudal.

Maybe the argument would be stronger with an archetype for a culture that the game doesn't have yet and that can have the Slavic flavour added to it. As I said, "Feudal" is not the "English" or the "French" culture. It's the Feudal culture. What is the culture you want to see that isn't Feudal, Barbaric, High, Dark, Industrial, Reaver, Mystic, or Primeval?

I am perfectly happy with it being a cozmetic option for Feudal or Barbarian.
Affinity of combo would perfectly fit to be Nature with anything, really.
Beside for that, I would rather leave it to a professional Game Designer to apply his skills. If it it would be a standalone culture, I would expect it to be discussed among a team of qualified Devs, rather than one person rambling about it, no matter how much he/she would know about this game or how many hours they have clocked in.
And furthermore I would prefer to speak my mind - namely stating that I would like the "cosmetic flavor" of a Slavic culture inspired game culture for AOW, rather than being bogged down by fanfiction techicalities.
What is the difference technically between a high culture and feudal culture? Nothing really. However when they are developed to be internalized in a game system then they become different and unique.
And furthermore, any culture suggestion will be coming out of the "bag" of flavor of the feudal (and barbarian) culture, as this is a fantasy game - these are the initial culture flavors, anyne ever thinks of when they think about fantasy.
That is why I, or rather we, need the Devs on it. That is why I am making my voice heard here.
And I would do so gladly, over a thousand posts more...

This would indeed be cool with polar bears. Warhammer total war have Kislev with polar bears lancers and they are fun to watch in action.
That said, other posters raised a valid point as in what substantial gameplay mechanics this culture would bring.
Would you mind elaborating on how their units would work and if they have any unique campaign mechanics ?

It shouldnt be a unique culture, and it needs a better name than Slavic, I think it might appeal amazingly with eastern european players.

Borderland culture.
I can think of two world map mechanics:
1. Lord of the borderlands: cities gain 10% in all yields for each adjacent city with share border that belongs to a different rulers, these can be vassals, allies or even enemies. This is a reference to the historical significance of Poland as a gateway to Europe.
2. Enemy at the gate: City suffer no penalty for domain invasion, city can produce units while under siege. A reference to Poland's historical tendency to be be constantly under siege.
For units:
Would be cool to see streltsy as a gunpower ranged infantry, but probably also carry an axe and is significant stronger than magelock in melee, but is weaker in ranged shootouts.
I still have no idea what unique tactical combat mechanic this faction should have.

I like your overall suggestions, but just to nitpick, every culture can already produce units while under siege :)

As for tactical bonus, there's plenty of untapped space, but I don't know enough about Slavic warfare on where to start. Maybe a damage bonus for each space moved like how shock units get?

Just to point out - I always meant Slavic inspired culture, not a culture called "Slavic" culture. If you have really read my previous posts, I actually suggested the name "Sunborn", however I can see how this might be in conflict with the High culture, so might be something different. It can definitely be a name like Borderland culture.

Cities already can produce units under siege. They dont even have a penalty on draft.

I don't think "slavic culture" would fit in AoW, this is not Civilization. IMO a better way to add some slavic flavour to the game would be including some creatures from slavic mythology.

Okay, I can agree to that too. The Slavic mythology and demonology is very, very rich in creatures, spirits and demons. This could work.

Thing is in a forum thigns are usually discussed, and what I wanted to express is that I felt you didn't offer much to discuss.

I don't know anything about Medieval (or whatever time period you were envision) Slavic culture, I expect a lot of people don't. And the units you proposed just looked feudal or barbaric and it sounded weird that you were proposing a real life culture.

If you provide reasons why some Slavic-Inspired culture we have more to discuss, there is more engagement and you might get more support.

Just a thought.

As to the difference between High and Fuedal: Feudal is Rohan, High is the Elves/Gondor. Boom.

Yea, wtv... I think that Slavic inspired culture would add a lot more to the palette of the game, rather than conquistadore culture "with guns". I don't know what more could I add to that - I stated it pretty clear in the main post. Just look at the DVAR - they were one of the coolest races in AOW PF. Why not try the same here?
As I said - there are people more capable than you and me, to design the race. I'm merely posting a suggestion. Cuz you know, I thought suggestions are what drive the conversation, right?

My thoughts exactly on this! If you've seen a dwarf musketeer in AOW 3, you know how cool can that be - no specific cultural flavor, he is just a dwarf with no beard and with long enough moustaches for about two beards. He just looks like a cool soldier, nothing more, nothing less - a soldier. Not a warrior, not a conquistador, not a fantasy creature - a soldier of his homeland, nothing more. And that has its own meaning of itself. I would have been thrilled if we could pick a tome of the "Black Powder" or wtv, which gives us access to musketeers, in any game, any culture.

That's why he is culture locked, every culture locked unit is pretty much just a soldier and not much more, some of them are peasant s even. ;P

Its because ashes and empires made a big deal about gunpowder units before we saw the gameplay for it. I cant help but think each culture researching tome of the dreadnought could have had their own cultural interpretation of magelocks and use that tome as a representative milestone of military advancement for their culture. High gunners, feudal gunners, barbarian gunners, industrial gunners, mystic gunners, dark gunners vs reaver gunners would have been very interesting to see.

That idea would require to basically adapt all tome units to cultures. Feudal tyrantknight vs high one for example.

Note on Borderland combat mechanics.
I have been thinking about it. Slavic heroes from classic like the Cossacks seemed to be closer to their men, rather than seemly mystical figure with an unapproachable aura around them. So perhaps a mechanic called "brotherhood" where heroes buff units around them and units buff heroes around them. Needs a cool slavic name through.
Basic idea:
- Heroes give strengthened to units around them when they attack (Hero skill, 3 stack, 2 hex radius, but only on the first attack)
- Unit give strengthened to nearby heroes when they attack, or enter defense mode (All racial units and seal, 1 stack and only on the first attack)
This encourage player and AI got move the hero closer to the fight. However this also make them high priority target for sniping.
(And that's fine, if anyone remembers what happened at end of the Cossacks)

Isnt that part of customization? As it is now, each tome unit looks different by race, they can do the same for cultures.

Or instead of this, simply have a magelock equivalent tome unit for factions needing a good physical ranged unit. I can see this tome unit being a better use case than zephyr for materium.

None of the factions in the game are based on cultures. They are all just fantasy tropes, with the ability to be applied to any of the Age of Wonders species. High vs Dark is LOTR elves vs Mordor, feudal is Gondor/bogstandard fantasy knights, industrious is dwarfs, mystic is mages, reavers are pirates, and barbarians are Conan.

How does Slavic fit into a fantasy trope?

i mean every fictional culture, faction and the like is based on actual real life cultures but overdramatized

would not be surprised if high is more a holy kingdom theme which is more with god or templars or paladin settings which are overdramatized to give them holy powers

dark mostly feels like evil empires who use dark magic, which is from every kingdom or empire who in history is known to be a tyranny and it is overdramatized to make the emperor some sort of evil wizard

industrious is a bit hard to identify since they feel more about metallurgy and the age of looking for mines and gold

feudal is based on the typical story of knight from the middle age in any fantasy setting

mystics i have hear people saying it feel more like Persian type of esoteric

reavers is obvious not pirates but conquistador from Spain time which are the most famous

barbarias are a more over dramatization of Conan since Conan is based on celts from what little i could research, kind of saying it is based on the legend of Beowulf or Siegfried which are stories like conan in their time

in essence any actual culture could and is the base of lots of fantasy settings so taking a slavic, mesoamerican, japanese/chinese wuxia, celts, and others cultures and mythos is not farfetched, the only difficulty would be creating units and the unique skill to differentiate from other cultures in game

i mean a big mmo that end in 14 does have a lot of inspiration from real life cultures in different time frames

And it woud be even easier to represent these cultures through culture skins dlc.

i supose like dark should be just a skin of feudal how did i not think of that since they are thematically the same but one is the evil side of it

i man at least for the cultures i know there can be like 5 new units for them

I didnt make the cultures, but if cultural evolution was a thing it would go from barbarian to feudal, to then branching from there to dark, mystic, or high.

Since thats not a thing, perhaps dark could focus more on necromancy or sacrifices for power in combat gameplay. Just spitballing here.
ASSISTANT
