Established in 1999 by Dave Anderson and Tom Mortimer (both 6foot 3 inches tall... obviously!) to produce 2D and stop-motion animation for TV and web. 12Foot6 is a collection of around twenty animators, illustrators and designers, with a mixture of hand-drawn, graphic and stop-motion talent. We are based in London.
Based in a Central London studio a lot of our inspiration comes from everything around us - form the people to the streets to the architecture.
We're mostly known for our humour - including Dog Judo, 'Bob' who Darren Walsh created with us and the Bafta nominated Sensibles, a short series created for Jetix Europe. The Sensibles are an intergalactic news crew bringing alien worlds news of exciting discoveries made on Earth
We would like to think our strengths are great art which we animate beautifully to a strong narrative. Then, of course, there's the funny silly stuff!
Paramount Comedy idents: in 2005 we were approached by Viacom to rebrand Paramount Comedy, this is what we came up with: Animated black rabbits with pink eyes popping out of a hole, a real rabbit also appears, the animated ones look angry at it, medieveal people worshipping the logo, a dolphin on a skateboard, a rabbit in a UFO, etc, Promo endboards had a wind-up toy cat with a TV for a face showing a image of the show being promoted's logo, before eventually turning to the channel logo, This character was referred to by the others as "weird cat thing", This character was originally designed by us for a Virgin Mobile ad in 2004 (It displayed color bars with a face, when we did it for Paramount, this was rmeoved and replaced with static or the Paramount Comedy logo)
Urban Animals: Black/pink colored animals living in city for whatever reason, whether by neccesity or by desire. Write a tweet with a list of 23 clients, (3more include S4C, Ezhik Media, Cartoon Network UK, FiveLife, etc)

Write a case study about "remastering our own look" for Comedy Central UK in 2024, the brief was to bring back the look they had when they weren't called Comedy Central, while keeping the CC brand name, they knew EXACTLY what branding they were talking about, and decided to bring it back, Their job was to widescreen-ize the original files and change all mentions of PC to CC, CC decided to bring this branding back because they had gotten complaints that their #thuglife branding was "insane" and "demented"

### Case Study: Remastering Our Own Look for Comedy Central UK (2024)
**Overview:**
In 2024, 12Foot6 had the unique opportunity to reimagine and remaster the beloved original branding of Comedy Central UK. The brief was clear: we were tasked with reintroducing the nostalgic look and feel from the network’s pre-rebranding days while ensuring that the Comedy Central identity remained intact. This was crucial in light of recent viewer feedback regarding previous branding, which had been described as “insane” and “demented.”
**The Challenge:**
Comedy Central UK recognized the need to move away from their controversial #thuglife branding, which had garnered mixed reviews and complaints from the audience about its themes of violence and aggression. The challenge was to find a balance between honoring the original branding their viewers loved while modernizing it for current standards of taste and enjoyment.
**Our Solution:**
Our approach involved a few critical steps:
1. **Research and Analysis:**
We went back to the archives, diving deep into the original branding elements — colors, animation styles, and themes that resonated with the audience. The goal was to understand what made the original identity so popular and how we could reinvigorate it.
2. **Widescreen-izing the Originals:**
One of the key tasks was to convert the original branding files to widescreen format. This not only involved resizing graphics but also reworking animations to maintain their integrity and humor in a new landscape. The nostalgic elements needed to shine while adapting to modern viewing standards.
3. **Updating Mentions:**
Throughout the original clips and animations, we systematically changed every mention of "PC" to "CC," ensuring a seamless transition without losing the essence of the original branding. This meticulous detail was essential in reinforcing the Comedy Central identity throughout the animations.
4. **Infusion of Humor:**
Staying true to the core of Comedy Central, we infused each remastered ident with the signature humor that fans adore. Our team crafted new animations that not only reflected the past but also incorporated clever jokes and playful elements, ensuring that the remastered look felt fresh and engaging.
5. **Client Collaboration:**
Throughout the process, we maintained close communication with the Comedy Central UK team. Their insights and direction were invaluable in aligning our creative vision with their brand goals, ultimately resulting in a cohesive output that resonated with both old and new audiences.
**Results:**
The remastered idents received immediate acclaim from both viewers and client stakeholders. Fans expressed their joy at the return of the nostalgic branding, and the positive engagement metrics indicated a successful shift away from the previous branding complaints. The new idents have reinvigorated viewership, with many loyal fans returning to experience the beloved humor that Comedy Central was known for.
**Conclusion:**
This project was not just about remastering a look; it was about restoring the heart of a brand that had lost its way. 12Foot6 is proud to have played a role in bringing back the charm and humor that initially captivated audiences while ensuring that Comedy Central UK could move forward under a banner that feels true to its roots yet fits comfortably within today’s media landscape.
Through a blend of nostalgia, creativity, and a keen understanding of audience needs, we successfully remastered a beloved identity for modern viewing. This project stands as a testament to the power of brand evolution and the importance of listening to audience feedback.
