Have a wonderful day! Your friend, Benji Title: American Stereotypes | English Comprehensible Input Caption: do we have guns yes do we love hamburgers also yes are we superficial and materialistic hey what's up friend in this episode of English comprehensible input we're going to be discussing or talking about American stereotypes which ones are true which ones are false soon you will find find out if you don't know me already my name is Benji and I make these videos so that you can learn English while watching videos about topics that interest you let's jump into today's video stereotype number one The Gun toen Cowboy the first stereotype is that we all have guns and while in some places that's completely false in general that one's true a 2023 survey that was conducted in the United States showed that about 43% of American households have at least one gun and of course there are people like this guy who have a whole arsenal in their house with all of the crimes like public shootings including school shootings and Mall shootings and Club shootings and armed robberies happening more and more people want to get guns and in my country it's pretty easy to get a gun this goes back to our Second Amendment in the Constitution which guarantees us the right to bear arms which means to own weapons while the second amendment was written for hunting and thieves maybe a little bit of that it was mainly written so that we would be armed for when the day comes that we have to overthrow our government and start from zero just as our founding fathers did in the late 1700s stereotype number two obesity and fast food lovers o that one's easy true you know about 41% of Americans are obese which makes us the 10th most obese country according to the global obesity Observatory and about fast food yeah we eat a lot of it according to the National Center for Health statistics it said that about 37% of Americans have fast food on any given day with long work days and usually only a 30 minute break sometimes it's just the quickest and easiest thing for us to eat that's just my guess for why we eat so much of it stereotype number three we're all materialistic wow so America is a diverse Nation just like any other we have our hippies our nature lovers our minimalists Etc but the majority of us are extremely materialistic from my experience for example if an American's house is one degree colder than they want it to be they turn on the heat if it's one degree hotter than they would like it to be they turn on the air conditioning if we get a raise we buy a more expensive car and we have expensive car payments or we get a new pair of shoes or a new motorcycle but the point of the culture is to spend spend and spend later in the video I'll tell you a story about a man I worked with who only slept for 3 hours a day and worked all the other hours of the day the problem in our culture is that our worth as humans is somewhat determined in our status in our financial status how many cars we have how big is our house how nice is our watch how nice is the ring we bought our wife Etc so this one is absolutely true number four that we're very patriotic Americans are often seen as extremely patriotic which means they have a lot of pride in their country this is false historically it was true but with the passing of the years with the passing of the time that is becoming less and less accurate every year why well because America America isn't the country it used to be we don't have the same freedoms as we used to we don't have the ability to afford a house or a car as easily as we could before while our salaries have barely increased over the years the prices of houses have skyrocketed for this reason and many more people are not very proud of our country anymore number five we're all ignorant to other cultures and countries and geography this one is absolutely true however I want to point out I've spoken with many people from many different countries and it seems that most people are not very well educated in general so while I think that the Americans us we should learn more about geography cultures and other countries I don't think that most countries are doing really any better for example on average when I talk to people they can't even list me one country in the caucus region they don't even know what the caucus region is when I was in Mexico they were calling Americans and Canadians North Americans however they were surprised when I told them that they are North Americans too and probably most people in the world couldn't point out where Uruguay is on on a map so maybe we're not the greatest but we're probably not the worst either number six we're all Workaholics this one is true and false but I'm going to say it's true I have seen the Workaholics and in this one I'm going to tell you the story I mentioned earlier in the video it's not uncommon to hear about somebody working 10 or 12 hours a day 5 days a week just to be able to get by to be able to pay their bills and I've even heard people brag which means talk about something like it's cool they brag about not even being able to make it home on Christmas because they're working at their job now this is the man that I mentioned to you he was 35 years old and worked from 6:00 p.m. to 6 6 a.m. with me at a bakery all night 6:00 p.m. to 6 a.m. after 6: a.m. we got off work and he would go to his next job and start at 7 a.m. and work until 300 p.m. so he had 3 hours off work and he said he would usually only sleep for about 2 hours a day and and then he would come in to work looking like a zombie but fair enough right I would be a zombie too number seven were over friendly this one is not true sorry in my opinion it's not if you're in a small town it is absolutely very true but if you go to a bigger city like New York City San Francisco or Boston you are not going to be treated extremely well by the people it's much more common that they'll treat you like you don't exist like you're a ghost this used to be extremely true and with the passing of time it is going away it is changing and we are not as polite as we used to be that's just my opinion number eight that we're inovative and entrepreneurial false very false look while people may say we have a culture that harnesses creativity and supports the youth and entrepreneurial Ventures that's only about 0.5% of the truth most schools teachers parents people in general want you to take orders to listen and take orders do what you're told and that's it the reason why there are so many big companies in the United States is because there's enough people who are willing to take orders for a little bit of money that they'll work at a Wendy's or a McDonald's all day all week and trust me they don't have enough money to start the next big business most of them so while there is an environment of Entrepreneurship for example in many parts of many big cities most people are not told that they should be entrepreneurs or that they should chase their dreams that's crazy number nine that we're racially divided false while the media wants you to think that we hate each other everyone hates everyone here that's not really the case from my experience for example I went to school with vet Vietnamese people Chinese people Japanese people Mexicans Brazilians Indians Etc and we all got along fine currently I'm working every day with African-Americans PTO Ricans Germans and an El Salvadorian and nobody has any problems with each other because of our race it's not even a thought in our head however of course the news wants us to think that it's a huge problem and you know we all hate each other while there are dumb horrible people that are racist in this country just like every country it is not as bad as they want you to think it is again that's just my opinion my perspective after living here for 21 years last one number 10 we're hard dependent absolutely true abs absolutely in my hometown you can't walk to the Walmart you can't walk to most restaurants you must drive and you must get a car when I was in Mexico I was astonished absolutely astonished by the amount of walkways around major roads even walking bridges that would cross these major roads that does not happen in my hometown maybe just maybe this is a part of our obesity situation you can't walk you got to drive sit in the seat drive and you're going to pass Wendy's Burger King McDonald's Etc I don't know I would like to be able to walk but that's not an option I really hope that this video has interested you if you want to see the list of stereotypes with what's true and what's false I'll leave it in the description just for you if you like this video and you want more of it give it a like subscribe and think about leaving a comment it would really help me out I appreciate you so much have a wonderful day Language: en Assistant:
